Every one of us has an enormous memory drive that keeps all the karmic memories in file. May they be good or bad, all are saved in it. These are the factors that will shape our future lives and opportunities – our main causes of cyclic reincarnation. The Great Compassion Mantra (Long Dharani) is to purify all the karmic seeds into the great compassionate bodhicitta.
The Great Compassion Mantra of Guan Yin (Avalokiteshvara) is immensely powerful to alleviate sufferings and fulfilling wishes. If we are willing to recite, practice, and be aspired by the Great Compassion Mantra in this tormenting samsara full of karmic obscurations, we can certainly improve our practice and be accomplished. As long as we are connected to Guan Yin’s Wifi, she is our protector. The mantra is like a life insurance that is always effective in this modern day of chaos and disasters. Guan Yin has vowed to respond to any suffering anywhere at any time. She will always be there to safeguard us.
The mantra is the expression of Guan Yin’s great compassion, which is consisted of the Four Immeasurables: love, compassion, joy, and equanimity. Love is to commiserate; compassion is to eliminate suffering; Joy is to be generous willingly. By unlimited giving, the generosity brings everyone delightfulness and merits to oneself.
Through the Great Compassion Mantra, we learn to give, to be compassionate, and to love. We can serve sentient beings and rejoice in any opportunities to engage in virtuous acts. Rejoice in assisting anyone who needs help is an important activity before attaining Buddhahood – to make positive connections with sentient beings.
