Guan Yin is the prime inspiration whom Master Hsin Tao aspires to emulate. She is the very embodiment of compassion who responds to the needs of sentient beings by manifesting in endless forms. Many practitioners and students at Ling Jiou Mountain regard her as the spiritual reliance and guidance to follow. A several prominent practices of Guan Yin include: Universal Door of Guan Yin from the Lotus Sutra (Saddharma-Pundarika Sutra); Great Compassion Mantra; Sutra of the Heart of Transcendent Knowledge; Guan Yin’s Method of Listening to Sound from Surangama Sutra. These teachings are prevalent among practitioners of monastic and laity. It is said that the Water Earth Repentance Ceremony; Food Offering Ritual, etc. are also the skillful methods to magnetize beings of different capacities.

Wu Sheng Monastery of Ling Jiou Mountain upholds the methods of Guan Yin as the primary practice. Outer expression can be seen in the display of Tara statues, Eleven-faced Guan Yin, and more. Inner realization wise, Master Hsin Tao accomplished his practice predominantly through Guan Yin’s methods. Peace Meditation of Ling Jiou Mountain has integrated the Guan Yin’s Method of Listening to Sound so the practitioners learn to “listen to the sound of silence”. Master Hsin Tao encourages students to recite the Great Compassion Mantra so our bodhicitta is inspired and the mind becomes attuned with Guan Yin.

Every year, participants join the annual 21-Day Great Compassion Retreat. Together, the combination of collective merits and the blessing of Guan Yin’s great vows are dedicated for world peace. As well, the monastery performs pujas of Guan Yin frequently and hopes inspire the practice of joy, compassion, love, and equanimity (Four Immeasurables) among all students.
